Cabin Fever Escape: Maine
I had this week off from work and I spent the few weeks before desperately searching for a place to get away. I started my search looking for a place down south since my soul is longing for some time in the Carolinas, but I realized my cheapest option for such a last minute trip would be to join my mother on a business trip to Maine. She was staying at The Grand Hotel in Kennebunk for two nights before heading up to Brunswick for the rest of the week. I jumped at the chance to return to Kennebunk since falling in love on my last visit. The Grand Hotel is by far the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. Their decor is gorgeous and ahead of the curve, it's spotless, the beds are luxurious and they even deliver you orange juice and muffins in the morning and give you a departing gift bag of bottled water and freshly baked cookies when you leave. It's just steps from Kennebunkport where there is amazing shopping and delicious eats like the ever popular Clam Shack. Across from our hotel is H.B Provisionswhich is an adorable general store. It very much reminded me of places I would frequent down south. They have all the odds and ends you need while on vacation, including the most delicious whoopie pies.
During our stay we ate dinner both nights at David's KPTwhich has beautiful views and amazing food. I tried raw oysters for the first time which surprisingly I loved! I thought the briney liquor was delicious and exactly what I wanted to be eating while next to the ocean. Around the corner from the restaurant are some really fun shops. One of my favorites is the Daytrip Societywhich is full of unique items and has a good amount of handmade in the USA products as well, which I really appreciate.
We also did some antiquing along Route 9 and found some great things. We even found a gorgeous secret beach by accident. There is this charming horse farm on the way in to Kennebunk that I love and wanted to get a closer look. So we drove down their road which actually lead to a beautiful beach with cavernous salt marshes. On the way back from there we stopped at my very favorite place Snug Harbor Farm. I have blogged/instagramed about them in the past so I don't think my love affair with them is a secret! They have the most gorgeous selection of plants and their gift shop is somewhere I could spend hours in. I've said it before but I must say again that their staff is so kind which really makes the experience even better.
This trip was exactly what I needed. Just a few days by the ocean with my Mama, relaxing, eating delicious food, sleeping in a cozy bed and bringing home some fun gifts for myself. I feel rejuvenated and ready to take on the world again.
